As you might have noticed by now, I love weekend getaways!
I just think they are a great way to travel; since it’s a short trip the expenses are reduced and by living in the European Union there’s the possibility to get to know amazing places that are only a short drive/flight/train away.
All of us being extremely corny and obsessed with flowers, we knew that a trip to the colorful Tulip Fields in Rotterdam was long overdue.
With Meg behind the wheel, we left early Saturday morning and sang catchy songs all the way to Antwerp for a quick lunch break at a delicious place Lauren recommended named Tinsel.
Once all fueled up we continued our road to the Netherlands.
Originally we were supposed to go straight to the fields, but as we were a bit behind schedule and the weather was pretty bad, we decided to risk it and leave it for Sunday.
Instead we went to the city where we grabbed a drink at the Markthal, snapped photos of the Cube House, went thrift shopping at Tony’s Garage Sale and tasted dutch “Wafels” at Stroop Rotterdam.
We then went to drop our stuff at our stylish airbnb apartment, before heading for dinner at Aloha House.
It all went really quick, but we got a good taste of the city. I really loved how design oriented it is, and how amazingly nice the locals are. We had a lovely time and even got a bit tipsy that evening after dinner but went back to the apt, cause we had to gather energy for our flower hunt.
Sunday morning, we woke up early and went to the only place open early called Urban Espresso Bar where we got sandwiches, coffee and cake (breakfast of champions) for the ride towards the municipality of Noordwijk.
It turns out, visiting the fields on Sunday rather than Saturday was the best decision we could have made, as unexpectedly the sun decided to pay a visit… specially considering that it was originally meant to rain.
In the end, we found multiple fields of other flowers (that I can’t remember the name) and not so many tulips (apparently they weren’t ready yet).
But that didn’t matter as we still got to wander between colorful flowers (that smelled amazing) and enjoy it all together!
The best part was that by accident we bumped into a greenhouse turned tea salon that was DREAMY.
I would love to describe it but I’m not good with words… luckily I went crazy taking photos of this magical place so you’ll get the idea :)
After staying (a little bit too long) at the cute place, we went ahead to search for a couple more fields before hitting road again.
While on the road, we then decided to go outside the schedule and make a stop at Bruges for a little stroll and dinner.
We ended up arriving at 1am to Paris, but it was well worth it.
The whole trip must have been 200€ tops per person… and look at all what we did!
I tell you, weekend getaways are just the best!
