As a runway and backstage photographer I have certain objectives… Kenzo Backstage has been one for a while.
To cover a show from the official Fashion Week Calendar is in itself a goal achieved, not just anyone gets the “privilege” to enter this very restrictive world…
But then there’s a hierarchy among shows… some are easier to get access to than others and although I’m always happy to work with different brands of all levels and their unique Universes, I do have a group of shows in mind that I intend on covering at some point in my life even if only once.
I set that list in my mind, the instant I took this path into photography and some of them are:
Christian Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab, Givenchy, Balmain, Valentino, Stella McCartney, Céline and Kenzo among others…
This past season I was fortunate enough to cross two of those from my list Kenzo and Giambattista Valli (more on that show later).
Kenzo has always allured me for its playful & technical approach to fashion and for the originality they put into their shows.
The day I received on the mail my All Access pass, I had to almost pinch myself since I couldn’t believe that very coveted piece of carton, had my name on it!
Some people might not get my excitement, but it was definitely a new milestone for me.
The RDV was on Sunday suuuuuper early in the morning at the very other end of the City, but it was so worth it!
The backstage was a blast to shoot! So much space, good lighting and a very upbeat vibe… everyone was on hectic mode but it was a controlled chaos… hands down one of the best organized shows I’ve covered.
The collection obviously didn’t disappoint, mainly composed of statement outerwear pieces with bold prints and complementing accessories. In terms of beauty they went for minimalism, with sleek pony tails and washed faces with white paint brushed over the eyes.
The whole time I was there I felt ecstatic! I could not stop shooting and when the time for the show came, I found in the same situation… as I mentioned previously, these folks really like to put on a show.
And because the backstage and the runway were stars in their own way (and because I took so many photos) I’ll be showing you them in two separate posts, giving them the limelight they deserve.
Now let’s hope next season I’ll get the honor to cover this show again ;)
